Privacy and Cookies

A site that argues operators should be honest about data handling has to be specific about its own. This page describes what actually happens when you load a page here, not a generic template.

The short version

Reading this site requires no account, no sign-up and no consent banner, because there is nothing here to consent to. We run no analytics product, no advertising network, no social widgets, no session recording and no A/B testing. No profile of you is built, and nothing about you is sold or shared for marketing.

What is collected when you visit

• Server access logs. The hosting platform records the usual request data — IP address, timestamp, the URL requested, referring URL, user agent and response code — for security and troubleshooting. Standard practice for any web server; it is not linked to a person and it is not used for marketing.
• Content delivery and security. The site sits behind Cloudflare, which handles TLS termination and filters malicious traffic. Your request passes through Cloudflare’s network before it reaches our server, and Cloudflare may set its own strictly necessary cookies (such as a bot-management cookie) for that purpose. This is a processing arrangement for security, not an analytics one.
• Page caching. Pages are cached and served as static copies where possible. The cache stores the page, not the reader.

Cookies

This site sets no analytics, advertising or preference cookies. WordPress sets cookies only for users who log in to the administration area, which is us and not you. Comments are switched off site-wide, so no comment cookies are set either. The only cookies a reader is likely to receive are the strictly necessary ones described above from Cloudflare.

Because there are no non-essential cookies, there is no cookie wall and no “manage preferences” dialogue. If you block cookies entirely in your browser, the site still works.

Email you send us

If you write to the address on Reach the Desk, we hold your message and address for as long as it takes to deal with it and to keep a record of any correction it led to. That is it: no mailing list, no CRM, no forwarding to third parties, no sale. Please do not send identity documents, account numbers or card details — if they arrive anyway, they are deleted rather than filed.

Following a link away from this site puts you under someone else’s privacy policy, and some of those links are commercial — see Funding and Links. A gambling operator will collect far more about you than this site ever does, starting the moment you land on it. That is worth knowing before you click, and it is why several of the articles here exist.

Your rights

If you are in the UK or the EU, the GDPR gives you the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to object to processing and to complain to your national data protection authority. In practice, unless you have emailed us, the honest answer to a request will be that we hold nothing beyond server logs that we cannot connect to you. Children

This site is written for adults and its subject is an activity restricted to adults. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

Changes

If the site starts using anything that collects data — an analytics tool, an advertising script, a newsletter — this page will say so before it goes live, and the date at the top of the page will change. The terms on which the site is offered are on Terms of Use.
